Hackers good, bad? Empty Hackers good, bad?

Over the last few days of A+, as i'm sure you're aware, we've been watching videos on hackers. One presented by 60 minutes and another is a, in the words of Mr. Reichelt, "hardcore independent" film. 60 minutes did a great job of convincing viewers that hackers are criminals, bank robbers, and agents of chaos. Now while there are people like this out there, they, atleast according to a certain independent film, are not part of the hacker community. The actual community consists of intuitive, inquisitive and innovative people who enjoy spending their time thinking of new solutions to both new and old problems. It's clear that some propaganda can make it into mainstream and i believe these are one of the main reasons Reichelt had us watch both films. Other than that though, it was just so we could become more educated on hackers as well as people who abuse tech and break laws for their own gains. Clearly Reichelt's "hardcore" film represented the hacker demographic more accurately. And the reason for the two different ideas is because people are different. People who are into the mainstream are typically ignorant and dont care enough to find the facts for themselves.
