This article I am reading has useful information on parallel ports. This port works like this, the device sends data in bytes which travel parallel to the computer. This port was made by IBM. One of the first device to use a parallel port was dongles. Back in the day this was used mostly by printers. Today parallel ports is replaced by usb. Mostly all devices use usb today.
