Summary: This article gives basic knowledge of serial ports. Unfortunately serial ports are rarely being used in this moder day world. They have been replaced. They have been replaced because they cost too much and they are thought to be a "legacy"Serial ports are only found on a PC style computer. When using a serial port data travels through one bit at a time. Basically a serial port is a port that you hook up a device to it, and it allows that device to work. Basically the only places where serial ports are used are for scientific analysis, industrial automation systems, and in some industrial and consumer products.
