This article tells about the RJ-11 jack. The RJ-11 jack is most often used for telephone wirings. The abbreviation "RJ" stands for register jacks and other registered jacks similar to the 11 one is RJ-14, RJ-25 and RJ-61. This type of jack has 6 connector positions but normally only 2 to 4 are used. The higher the number the more lines that can be used, (RJ-25 3 lines...RJ-61 4 line etc.). Telephone lines normally supply enough power on their own and don't need any other cords, except for some cases in old phones. An RJ-11 jack can give out about 5 volts of power.
